Stone In My Shoe

We were listening to that old favorite record of my daddy's
And I started weeping like a heart-broken child
I was carried back to a distant sweet memory
As I went for a ride
On the band's lonely "Ebb Tide."
I watch my granddaughter dance across the yard
Belly laughing as she chases bubbles carried by the breeze
I imagine her grown, watching her own child someday
Dancing across the lawn
When I am gone,
And life going on
That's when my guardian angel
Dropped a little stone in my shoe
It's not unusual lately
To have a little stone in my shoe
I find myself sometimes
With tears in my eyes
Born of nostalgia, and the truth that time flies
A small reminder that the fiddler is due
And I've been walking around now
With a little stone in my shoe
I remember long ago a child in a cabin in the snow
Looking out the window down at his folks on the stairs
As they came in from the cold and the twilights deep hush,
And how his heart swelled with a love
That bore eternity's touch
And my guardian angel
Dropped a little stone in my shoe
It's not unusual lately
To have a little stone in my shoe
I find myself sometimes
With tears in my eyes
Born of nostalgia, and the truth that time flies
A small reminder that the fiddler is due
And I've been walking around now
With a little stone in my shoe
A little stone in my shoe
(A little reminder of what I've always known,
(A little reminder that this is not my home)
A little stone in my shoe...
