Come and sail upon the sea
Yes, our ship's about to leave
For distant shores not seen before
Take a hand and come aboard
There's a lighthouse, troubled friend
And a promise on the wind
A comforter that never bends
Giving strength to guide the sails
Dear Captain, point the way
Calm the storms that come our way
And we'll reach the promised land
Dear Captain
Oh, the Bible, the Holy Bible
Let your mind find peace in God's Word
Oh, the Bible, the Holy Bible
Let your mind find peace in God's Word
When you're feeling down and discouraged
And the world seems to have you on a string
When the melodies of your song go crazy
And your heart can't find a song to sing
Get your Bible, your Holy Bible
Sit and let God talk to you a spell
Soon the Spirit, the Holy Spirit
Whispers in your heart that all is well
There are teachings going on that are so wrong
There are wolves in among Gods sheep
There are liars on the corner and knocking at your door
But the Bible, it's from the Lord
I'm talkin' bout the Bible, the Holy Bible
The undying authority of the Lord
Oh, the Bible, and the Holy Spirit
And Jesus are the only way for me
I said Jesus is the only way for me
Dear Captain, point the way
Calm the storms that come our way
And we'll reach the promised land
Dear Captain
Song notes: "The Bible," written by Steve Baxter, dates back at least to 1972 and the very early days of Jubal's Last Band. At the time, it was common for the song to be performed, as it is here, as part of a medley with "Dear Captain" and sometimes "Build Your House Upon The Rock." It was recorded by itself as part of Jubal's Last Band's 1974 demo tape. The song was officially recorded by Daniel Amos for their debut LP in 1976.
